The Foundation for the Horse is proud to announce the distribution of its 2026 Horses at Risk, Equine Care & Vaccine Support Grants, delivering vital funding and disease protection to nonprofit equine facilities across the United States.
Demonstrating the immense need within the equine rescue community, the program received more than 330 applications this year, representing nearly 10,000 horses in need of assistance.
Building on the momentum of the inaugural 2025 cycle, which awarded $75,000 to 30 facilities, the program significantly expanded its reach in 2026. This year, The Foundation awarded 40 grants of $2,500 each, totaling $100,000 in direct financial support to 501(c)(3) adoption, rescue, retirement, and therapy facilities across 17 states. These funds are designated for essential daily needs, including feed, hay, veterinary services, and farrier care.
This impactful grant program was made possible by a 2023 contribution from Pennsylvania horse owners and equine advocates Robert “Bob” and Toni Mallet. It represents the first of several innovative initiatives funded by the Mallets to improve the well-being of at-risk horses nationwide.
In tandem with financial aid, the 2026 program delivered critical healthcare through its long-standing partnership with Merck Animal Health. Formerly known as the Unwanted Horse Veterinary Relief Campaign, the integrated vaccine program provided 5,000 doses of core and risk-based Prestige® vaccines to 252 facilities across 30 states this year.
Over its 18-year history, this collaborative vaccine initiative has protected more than 100,000 horses across all 50 states from debilitating diseases.
While applications for the 2026 cycle are now closed, The Foundation for the Horse remains steadfastly committed to safeguarding the health, comfort, and dignity of the country’s most vulnerable equine populations.
