VET DIRECT Safety Net

The VET DIRECT Safety Net program assists horse owners with up to $500 for short-term financial needs for equine welfare. 

How to participate

Horse owners – If you think your horse is a candidate for this program, ask your veterinarian if they’re enrolled in Vet Direct Safety Net. Note: They must be a U.S.-based member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) to participate.

Veterinarians – If you are a U.S.-based AAEP member interested in participating in Vet Direct Safety Net, please complete this Interest Form.

Donors– If you wish to support this program, please donate here.

VET DIRECT provides funds for:
  • Colic that can be managed on the farm (non-surgical)
  • Stitches or staples
  • Wound management
  • Choke
  • Eye issues
  • Neurologic impairment
  • Diagnosis of endocrine issues
  • Euthanasia and disposal, if recovery is unlikely
VET DIRECT does not provide funds for:
  • Colic surgery
  • Vaccinations
  • Routine dental work
  • Ongoing medication needs
  • Therapeutic modalities like acupuncture or chiropractic care
