Brynn Waley, a third-year equine veterinary student at Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, is the inaugural recipient of the $5,000 Dr. Ty Wallis Memorial Scholarship. Managed through The Foundation for the Horse, this endowed scholarship was established in 2022.

Waley accepted her award December 8, 2024, during the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) 70th Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida.

The Dr. Ty Wallis Memorial Scholarship rewards a veterinary student at a college of veterinary medicine in the United States, Canada, Caribbean, or Europe for their academic excellence in their school and AAEP student chapter. Applicants must also have the support of AAEP members and their clinical instructors.

A natural-born leader, Dr. Wallis, was so many things to so many people. A friend. Son. Equine veterinarian. Board-certified surgeon. Mentor. Pilot. Entrepreneur. Philanthropist. Above all else, he was an amazing husband and father to the loves of his life: Kristen and Hattie.

Tragically, Dr. Wallis’ life was cut short in March of 2022 in a tragic helicopter accident. This scholarship and recipients will keep his legacy alive in their care of horses.
