Kent E. Sullivan, VMD, DACVS

Dr. Kent Sullivan has built a career grounded in precision, dedication, and a commitment to advancing equine surgical care. A board-certified equine surgeon practicing in Southern California, he has become a trusted resource for complex surgical cases, particularly in performance horses requiring advanced orthopedic and soft tissue interventions.

Raised on a farm in northern Idaho, Dr. Sullivan developed an early appreciation for animal care and the discipline it requires that has carried throughout his professional life. He pursued his veterinary education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed a large animal internship, before going on to complete a three-year residency in equine surgery at the University of California, Davis. In 1994, he became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, marking a significant milestone in his surgical career.

Dr. Sullivan’s clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of procedures, including surgeries involving bones, joints, and musculoskeletal injuries, as well as abdominal surgery, tendon and ligament repair, and mass removal. Utilizing advanced techniques such as arthroscopy, laparoscopy, and laser surgery, he brings a thoughtful and highly skilled approach to each case, helping improve outcomes and recovery for equine athletes.

As a senior surgical veterinarian at West Coast Equine, Dr. Sullivan plays a key role in delivering high-level care while also contributing to the continued growth of the practice. His influence extends beyond the operating room through his commitment to mentorship and education. Known for his approachable and encouraging nature, he has trained and guided many young veterinarians, offering both technical expertise and real-world insight.
