Dr. Jay Clayton Hansen, a graduate of the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, practiced at California racetracks, both harness and Thoroughbred. Among his clients was top Thoroughbred trainer Buster Millerick. Early in his career, he worked as a veterinarian at Walnut Hall Stud in Lexington, Ky., when the great Rodney was standing there; and later at Walnut Hall Farm and Fair Chance Farm in Ohio.

He served in a vast number of callings in the Latter Day Saints Church, including Circleville Branch President in Ohio, counselor to the president of the Louisville District in Kentucky, Bishop of the Springfield, Illinois Ward, stake mission president and high councilor in the Cedar City Stake, and patriarch of the three SUU student stakes. He loved home teaching and loved to sing in Mom’s choirs. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific.

Dr. Hansen passed away in 2013 at the age of 89 in his native Utah, where he had resided for more than 20 years after retiring from his equine practice.
