Horses at Risk, Equine Care & Vaccine Support Grant

Program Purpose

The goal of this grant is to support non-profit facilities that provide comfort, care, and vaccines to horses at risk. Our objective is to help as many horses as possible through this grant opportunity by:

  1. Providing funding to support the comfort and care for horses, and/or;
  2. Providing core vaccines, courtesy of Merck Animal Health, to help mitigate disease. (Previously known as the Unwanted Horse Veterinary Relief Campaign program)

Awards

  • Vaccine Awards- A minimum of 10 doses may be awarded per applicant facility; however, more may be awarded based on the application.
  • Grant Awards- The total funding amount available for this grant opportunity in 2026 is a maximum of 25 grants for up to $2,500 each.

Eligibility

This grant is open to U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that provide direct, day-to-day care to horses at their own facilities. The program is intended to support organizations with a demonstrated need for assistance and a proven record of impact through effective programs, including — but not limited to — equine adoption, rehabilitation, education, and the implementation of innovative services serving their target audiences and equine populations. The following are not eligible for funding: nonprofit organizations that do not directly own or manage the daily care of horses; privately owned horses; for-profit entities, including riding stables and boarding facilities.

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2026 Horses at Risk, Equine Care + Vaccine Support Grant Program. This year, nearly 400 applications were submitted with close to 10,000 horses requesting need.

Our intention is to provide notifications of vaccine awards around April 1, 2026, and notifications for Equine Care Grant awards around May 25, 2026.
