G. Marvin Beeman, DVM

Born on Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Dr. Marvin Beeman has been active in the equine world from early childhood to the present. He has greatly contributed to the education of equestrians across the United States and internationally.  An innovator in the equestrian world, Dr. Beeman has been presented with many awards and has a legacy of mentoring others in the profession.

He has been an equine practitioner since 1957, and his specialties include a variety of lameness and musculoskeletal issues.

When not caring for horses, you can find Dr. Beeman in the hunt field for the Arapahoe Hunt Club, (mounted fox hunting-whipper since 1972, huntsmen since 1986), playing polo (was rated at 3 goals) and trail riding (has been part of Round Up Riders of the Rockies since 1965 and is a current member of their Board of Directors).

Dr. Beeman received his veterinary degree from Colorado State University in 1957. He has practiced equine veterinary medicine at the Littleton Large Animal Clinic since 1957, serving as president from 1968 to 1997. He is currently serving as DVM Emeritus. His professional interest is primarily equine lameness.

Dr. Beeman is a member of national, state, and local veterinary societies. He has served on many of their committees, executive boards, and liaison offices. He is a past president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association; and is a former trustee of the American Veterinary Medical Associations Professional Liability Insurance Trust. He served on the Colorado State Board of Veterinary Examiners.

For several years, he served as a faculty affiliate in the department of clinical sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Colorado State University and as a member of their equine advisory committee. He has published and presented scientific papers in the United States and several foreign countries. In addition, he has presented programs to equine organizations, judge’s seminars, university equine programs and other horse related programs both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Beeman is serving or has served the equine industry as a trustee of the American Horse Council and chairman of AHC Health and Regulatory Committee, senior veterinary advisor for the American Quarter Horse Association and a member and past chairman of the AQHA Research Committee; United States Department of Agriculture Equine Advisory Committee, and two terms on the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture’s Advisory Committee on Foreign Animal and Poultry Diseases; Trustee, Trustee Emeritus and Veterinary Vice President of the Morris Animal Foundation and the Colorado State University Equine Science Program Horse Advisory Committee. Chairman of the Equine Disease Committee of the National Institute for Animal Agriculture and serving as a member of its Board of Directors.

Dr. Beeman was chosen as the Colorado Veterinarian of the year in 1975, the recipient in 1978 of the Special Service Award Honor Alumnus, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and the Honor Alumnus Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement, Colorado State University. The AQHA has honored him with the position of Lifetime Member, Honorary Vice President, and inductee into their Hall of Fame. The American Farrier’s inducted him into their International Horseman’s Hall of Fame for his contribution to the Horse’s Health and Welfare. He was inducted into the International Stockman’s Hall of Fame for his contribution to the equine industry. He was awarded the American Horse Council’s distinguished service award and recipient of the American Association of Equine Practitioners “Beyond the Call” Award. Recipient of the Craig A. Reed USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service Administration Award. Furthermore, he has received the Colorado Horse Council’s Lifetime Achievement Award and has been inducted into the Colorado Agricultural Hall of Fame.

Dr. Beeman is a member of the Board of Directors for the National Western Stock Show, has served on the Executive Committee as second Vice President for several years, as well as serving on several other committees. He is a Joint Master and Huntsman of the Arapahoe Hunt Club, and the 1st Vice President of the Master of Foxhounds Association of America.

He was chosen as the 2005 Citizen of the West by the citizens of Colorado.
